I finally got my finances back in check so I went on a mad buying spree for the car. Firstly I got new Brake Rotors for the front and back. I will get some pads later on, I will probably get those at the local auto store as I can get a discount at one of them.
Secondly, I also splurged on an Armster Armrest from the UK.
I don’t know why the car did not have one in the first place so I decided to get more storage space and give myself some small creature comfort at the same time.
Thirdly, I found a few leaks in the car, the most worrying one was the bottom radiator hose which began weeping after 4 days of extremely hot weather, I have tightened the jubilee clip which seemed to have stopped it for now but I decided to get some new hoses anyways, so I bought some silicone hoses from Roose Motorsport.
As soon as the parts arrive I can get on with the job of giving the radiator a good flush, replace both top and bottom hoses and also fixing a slight leak with the rocker cover gasket. When I changed the sparks the other week I noticed that 3 out of 4 of the sparks had a film of oil on them, this is clearly an indication that the gasket on the rocker cover is at it’s end. So off to LMF Vauxhall I went and ordered a new rocker cover gasket as well as a few other things.
Well it seems I will be busy doing car things in the next few weeks. I really enjoy doing things myself as I find it not only a learning experience but a rewarding one. You get to learn about cars as well as be safe in the knowledge that you have done the repairs and/or servicing yourself and not rely on a mechanic who can say they have done this and that when they have not, and also know that the parts you have used be what you wanted to use.
Stay tuned for more pictures as the parts get to me.
Well it’s nearing the end of the Australian summer and to be honest I can’t wait for the change in weather, I’m tired of all the hot days – and the damage it does to my car interior and paint job….lol. I have to get my windows tinted ready for next summer as the inside of the car gets so daam hot after a days parking in the sun at work.
The car is still running and not causing much trouble, apart from a new oil pressure sensor which took me about 10 minutes to replace I haven’t done much to the car lately. I just did an oil and spark service this week so it should last another few months before I change the oil again. Call me pedantic but I tend to change the oil every 7000 km just so it runs smoothly, besides it gives me away time from the normal everyday activities of life.
One thing did happen this week the engine check light came on and got me worried. It wasn’t flashing but just stayed on so I decided to buy a code scanner from the local auto store, but as soon as I bought it the light wasn’t on anymore… It always happens right? you think the worst, spend some time and money diagnosing the problem and all of a sudden the problem is gone… anyways I scored a new code scanner.
It will come in handy down the road as it not only can read my car but can read the codes on my wife’s car. It will give me piece of mind in diagnosing problems – if it’s a major problem I can take it to my trusty mechanic and at least have a clue as to what the problem is. If it’s a minor thing I can do it myself.
I still have not bought brake rotors or pads yet, the days just keep getting away from me as well as the money. It’s a well-known gripe for everyone but the bills just seem to come in all at the same time. I just hope I can push those brakes for another month until I can afford to buy the rotors and pads I want.
Well that’s it for now, hopefully I will have more to say in a couple of weeks when I get around to doing the rotors. I’m also looking forward to the Australian Motor show in July – It’s going to be in Melbourne this year.
