I decided to wrap the rear view mirrors today as I had a bit of wrap left over from the hood job. I’m getting good at this and I don’t mind working with this material. The only tricky bit was to get the wrap to sit properly on the corners.
A few tips:
(1) Be patient!! – if you rush it you will make mistakes, give yourself some time to work on a part. Give about an extra 3 cm excess wrap all around so that you have something to work with, you can always cut the excess wrap off but you can’t add it back on.
(2) Buy good quality wrap – The 3M wrap I bought was so easy to work with and only needs a little heat to stretch and reshape.
(3) Work the wrap from the inside out – start flattening the wrap from the centre out so that the air can escape, in the case of the mirror covers above I worked it from the flat part upwards. When I got to the corners I used a hair dryer to soften the wrap and then stretched it out as much as possible to get rid of the folds and bubbles.
To be honest I thought I did a better job with the mirrors than I did with the hood. I’m done for the moment, now its back to work, save up some cash and get the suspension kit.
